STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR LABORATORY SAFETY PRACTICES


1.0                                  OBJECTIVE

1.1                To lay down the procedure for safety practices in the laboratory.

2.0                  SCOPE

   2.1                This procedure applies to Quality Control Laboratory

3.0                   RESPONSIBILITY

3.1                    Every person who enter into the laboratory.

4.0                PROCEDURE

4.1                    Every person who enters in to the laboratory has to wear apron in the change        room before entering in to the laboratory as per SOP.

4.2                    Corrosive and hazardous chemicals should be handled under fuming cupboards and the persons handling these chemicals should wear safety goggles, nose mask and acid resistant hand gloves.

4.3                    All the chemical and reagents after the use is to be stored in their designated places and replaced with proper lids to avoid chemical and fire hazard.

4.4                    Handling of Spillage in Laboratory Refer SOP.


4.5                    If any spillage of chemical occurs on the body wash the area under running water. If any spillage occurs on the head or face, wash with plenty of water under the shower and take the person to the first aid and consult to the doctor.

4.6                    If any spillage occurs in to the eyes wash the eyes with the eye washer.

4.7                    All the flammable solvents are to be stored away from the sources of fire.

4.8                    All the hazardous chemicals are to be segregated and stored separately.

4.9                    Eye washers are to be placed in the quality control laboratory at the designated places.

4.10   Fire extinguishers are to be placed in the quality control laboratory at the designated                            Places.

4.11                  A first aid box has to be placed in the quality control laboratory.
